With compulsory quarantine in Hong Kong discontinued since the end of September, organisers of trade fairs can begin to feel more optimistic.
Eco Expo Asia, which will take place from 14–17 December 2022 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre under the theme this year of ‘Green Innovations for Carbon Neutrality, has certainly received a boost and is encouraging potential exhibitors to make use of the government's industry subsidy scheme that could cut 50% off the cost of participating (see below).
The fair is jointly organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, by the Environment and Ecology Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR Government.
The four key topics will be explored in some depth at Eco Expo Asia 2022 are:
- Carbon neutrality
- New energy
- Green finance and ESG
- Green transportation
The last day of the exhibition will be open to the public and online services will run until 24 December.
The Hong Kong SAR Government (HKSARG) has ended compulsory quarantine on arrival with its new policy, allowing inbound travellers to conduct a PCR test on entry, without needing to wait at the airport for the results. Following this, arrivals will then need to undergo three days of self-monitoring, under a policy dubbed ‘0+3’. Under self-monitoring, they will receive an amber code on the government’s official digital tracing application, which will allow them to access public transport, attend work, as well as business-related events.
Judy Cheung, deputy general manager of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd commented: “We are very pleased with this development and what it means for large-scale business events in the city, as we now expect a higher number of international participants to attend this year’s show. The move is well timed for Eco Expo Asia, with countries around the world committed to various net-zero and carbon neutrality targets, the fair can once again act as a platform bringing together a wide range of industries to tackle the climate crisis.”
The government convention and exhibition industry subsidy scheme and SME export marketing fund by the HKSARG has also been renewed this year. This means exhibitors can enjoy 50% off their participation fee (subject to a cap of HK$10,000) per booth or up to HK$100,000 in subsidies overall should they decide to exhibit at Eco Expo Asia 2022.
