Among competition from the likes of Spain’s Malaga, USA’s Minnesota, Thailand’s Phuket and Argentina’s Bariloche, a winner for EXPO 2027 has emerged - Belgrade, Serbia.
It may be a surprise for some, but the Serbs continually impressed organisers at Expo 2010 Shanghai, with their facade in the style of a traditional Pirot carpet, and at Expo 2015 Milan and 2020 Dubai, where the Serbian pavilions showcased a blend of traditional culture with modern technology.
EXPO 2027 is expected to attract over four million visitors and will run from 15 May to 15 August 2027. It will be held under the theme ‘Play for Humanity: Sports and Music for All’, addressing the importance of play, sports and music in the advancement of society. Around 120 countries, international organisations and companies will have the opportunity to present across 250,000sqm of exhibition space.
The event is a Specialised Expo – an internationally recognised exhibition that responds to a precise challenge facing humanity. BIE (Bureau International des Expositions) is the intergovernmental organisation responsible for overseeing the events, and has been since 1931.
2027 will mark the first time that the expo has come to the Western Balkans. For more information, visit https://expobelgrade2027.org/
