BRAZIL - United Business Media (UBM) has increased its presence in Brazil with the acquisition of several exhibitions.
The company has acquired a 75 per cent equity stake in Brazilian exhibition organiser Sienna Interlink (SI), and a 60 per cent stake in maritime industry tradeshow Navalshore.
Based in Sao Paolo, the formerly privately-owned SI runs the Concrete Show South America, the region’s largest concrete industry trade show. Held each August in Sao Paolo, this year’s show is expected to attract around 20,000 visitors and 400 exhibitors on 33,000sqm of exhibition space.
SI also owns the smaller Restaubar Show. In 2009, the two exhibitions generated aggregate revenue of an estimated US$4m.
The acquisition exposes UBM to the growing South American concrete market, which is benefitting from increased construction activity leading up to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
CEO of UBM International Media, Simon Foster, says: “The Concrete Show South America is a terrific addition to our portfolio of Brazilian tradeshows and is set to benefit greatly from the substantial investment in infrastructure construction taking place across the region. The business also provides us with an established and successful platform from which to launch new products in South American markets.”
The 2009 edition of Navalshore attracted more than 250 exhibiting companies and over 12,600 maritime engineering industry visitors, generating revenues of around $700,000. The next edition of Navalshore takes place during 11-13 August 2010.
