ICC Durban CEO Matola to move on

SOUTH AFRICA - After four years at the helm as CEO, Miller Matola, will be leaving the International Convention Centre Durban (ICCD) at the end of the financial year.

Matola will be joining the International Marketing Council (IMC) as CEO. “Leaving the ICCD was not something I anticipated,” says Matola. “But an opportunity to make a contribution to nation branding was an opportunity I could not decline. I leave knowing that the ICCD is in capable hands and believe that we are positioned to deliver against our strategic goals.

To facilitate a smooth transition, both the ICCD and IMC boards have agreed that Matola will continue to devote time to the ICCD while assuming the new role with the IMC. ICCD’s chairperson, Mato Madlala said Matola’s “vision, dedication and industry expertise have contributed to the positive growth in the business. During his tenure at the ICCD we have seen huge growth in revenues which resulted in the ICCD achieving its ultimate goal of being self sustaining”.

Since becoming CEO at the ICCD, Matola has won the Leadership Excellence Award 2009–2010 from Leading Managers Leadership and the Kaelo Award 2007 for achievement from the Black Business Executive Circle.
