CAPE TOWN CREATES FIFA WORLD CUP PRICING CODE

SOUTH AFRICA – Cape Town Tourism (CTT) has created a Code of Responsible Pricing for the city, designed to combat negative international perceptions of South Africa as “overpriced” ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The code has been endorsed also by the South African Association for the Conference Industry, the Federated Hospitality Association of South Africa, as well as other interested tourism associations.

“The code is an important charter,” says CTT spokesperson, Lianne Burton. “Tourism businesses need to be ready with good-value rates during the World Cup, but there needs to be offers of even greater value, both before and after the event.”

Based around four core principles, the code is designed to reflect responsible and sustainable tourism, fair value and consumer protection.

International visitors will be encouraged to look for adherence to the code as a sign of quality and value.
