Australia - For the first time in its history, the Sydney Harbour Bridge was closed for 6,000 people to enjoy an iconic picnic breakfast to show off the city’s ability to host major events.
The NSW minister for tourism Jodi McKay, who was responsible for laying down 10,000sqm of grass and providing entertainment and local produce, says the event was a fantastic international advertisement for the city and even a successful marriage proposal was held during it.
“This is Sydney at its very best and another extraordinary event proving we can do anything,” said NSW premier, Nathan Rees. "The Government’s investment will be returned tenfold by another boost to our world class reputation."
The event is set to become an annual fixture as part of the month-long food and art festival Crave Sydney every October.
