MCI has received two Icarus awards for outstanding commitment to sustainability at the Global Business Travel Association Annual European Conference held in Frankfurt, Germany, from 9 – 11 November.
The GBTA created the Icarus awards programme to provide a definitive source of information, education, support and recognition programs for sustainability in the business travel and meetings industry.
The awards recognise European companies and industry professionals who can demonstrate leadership, innovation, creativity and a serious commitment to developing sustainable programmes, products or services.
In 2014 , MCI staff volunteered 5,409 hours, raised more than €284,790 and supported 68 charity projects around the world.
In the same year, it started the process of “walking into the cloud” by moving its servers to Microsoft Office 365 Cloud-based infrastructure, reducing IT-related waste, and reducing carbon emissions.
MCI sustainability director, Guy Bigwood, was presented with the buyers award for MCI’s overall sustainability programme, encompassing both the global group’s internal sustainability policies and the innovative sustainable event strategies and consulting provided to clients.
He said: “This award recognises the dedication and achievement of MCI Talent all around the world who are creating a company with a strong culture of care and responsibility. I am very proud to say that sustainability is now part of our essence and brand.”
